Week 9

 Hello parents of Kindergarten A

I hope that you have all had a wonderful week and
are staying dry over this rainy weekend.

English

Sight words - on, our, out, please, pretty, ran, ride, saw
Phonics sounds - LT, PT and XT
(belt, salt, kept, empty, next, extra)

This week in English we continued to learn our sight words and our phonic sound.
We read our raz-kids book in the morning but we have also started writing our own books together using both the sight words and our phonics sounds.

The book that we created last week was 'Pinky Pon and the Golden Coin'.

I will also update your child's Raz-kids account with two books that link in with our unit of inquiry.

Next week
Sight words - say, she, so, soon, that, there, they, this
Phonics sounds - TR, DR and GR
(try, true, dry, draw, great, grow)

Math

This week in our math lessons we have been reviewing how to use ones, tens, hundreds to help us do addition and subtraction faster.

In our centre times we have been using different activities to reinforce our knowlege of shapes and how they can be used to make different pictures as well as using dice to creat different math problems.

Unit of Inquiry

In our UOI we looked into Ms Bel's big box of activites and looked and different animals, environments and how to recognise what is a living creature.

We shared with eachother what we already know about the environment and what we want to learn more about.

As last week we are still asking ourselves the following questions:

What animals live there?
Why do you think they live there?
Are their trees and plants?
What colours do you see?
Why do you think those colours are there?
Would you like to live there?
Is it hot or cold?

Park

We were able to go to the park a little bit this week but unfortunatly due to the start of the rainy season we played some games in our classroom. On Friday we also went to the gym for the first time this year and had a great time playing 'What's the time Mr Wolf' and 'Magic Corners'.

Music

Music has resumed in our class again however without the use of pianicas due to covid precautions.

Everyone was really happy to be doing music with Ms Nao again!

Happenings in Class

In class recently we have had quite a few beautiful hair styles being created by our students. I am hoping in future we will be able to create a little hair salon for our class.

Purler beads and colouring has continued to be popular in class and I am blown away with the amaing creations that our students are able to make.

I have also found the puzzles, lego and our play house have become quite popular!

Homework

Homework will be given on Friday but is not due until the following Thursday

In your homework packets this week you will find -

Sight words
Phonics blended sounds
Maths review
Japanese

Homework is an important part of helping your child reinforce what they have been learning in class and to build their confidence in the knowledge they have.

It is also used to help them learn balance, I teach them that it should not be completed all at once (unless they want to) but should be done in small amounts inbetween play and their regular home life.

Important Information

As per the adminitration's guide we are trying to enforce social distancing in our classroom

Please remember that we request your child bring the following items to class each day

We will be sending home these items daily as well as their hats on Friday.
