Week 14

Hello parents of Kindergarten A

I hope that you all had an enjoyable weekend and stayed as dry as possible.

English

This week we finished of our study of phonics, letters, sight words and writing for the term.

We have all worked really hard and that is showing in our results so far.

Our post box has been a huge success and the whole class has really enjoyed writing their opinions about what they want to grow in our garden next term!

Maths

We continued honing our maths skills through the use of different centers, we even had a special guest of Mr Ulu who joined in our maths games.

Unit of Inquiry

We finally decided that the way we wanted to help the planet and to make a difference to our local environment is to plant a garden on our balcony!

We want to plant a variety of things from vegetables, herbs and flowers!

We thought that we should plan out the garden before we started planting!

Play time

We have been playing a lot of different games in class and with the introduction of new power tool we have been enjoying fixing all the chairs and tables in the class.

Week 13

A sample of one of our dance parties

Hello parents of Kindergarten A

I hope that you have all had a good week and are enjoying your long weekend!

We had an enjoyable week continuing our studies in English, maths and compiling our gained knowledge of the environment  and starting to ponder how we can apply that knowledge to our everyday life.

We attended our first ever assembly!

English

In English this week we looked at the blended sounds of nch, shr and thr. Looking at words like - lunch, benh punh, inh, shrub, shrimp, shrine, shred, throw, threw, three and thread.

We also went over our sight words for this week, which were -
Theft, Champ, Tenth and Chest.

Our sight words for next week are -
Bench, Welsh, Chimp and Sixth.

Next week and the week after we will be reviewing all of the phonic sounds we have looked at this term.

Maths

In maths this week we have started to review all the new uses for maths that we discovered during the term. We have been honing these skill through the use of maths centers where we have been currently reviewing : time, addition and subtraction, counting to 100, symmetrical drawing and use of dice to play bingo.

Next week we will be continuing to review the maths ideas we have learned so far with a little more focus on learning the quarters on the clock and linking a digital time with an analogue clock.

Unit of Inquiry

This has been a very interesting week in our inquiry unit. As you know we have been studying the environment and specifically this week we have focused on how humans have changed the environment to suit us. We have covered both the positive and negative effects of this.

We discovered that not only do humans change the environment but all living thing change their environment one way or another to help them survive.

On Thursday we watched the Lorax and discussed how human greed hurt the environment of the Lorax and what thing maybe they could have done to prevent the problems they created.

On Friday we watch an ad about the use of palm oil (the link is here) and the impacts of logging on animals. The children were quite moved by the ad and I asked them to start thinking of ways that we as a class could help nature and environment in our own small way.

Please feel free to watch the ad and discuss its message with your child as we hope to implement their ideas both within our class and the school in general as we are beginning to end this use with their ideas.

Cleaning Lesson

On Friday Ms Nao have us a class gift of a paper filing cabinet! However before we were allowed to use it she wanted to give us a quick lesson is cleaning and organisation. We learned to arrange our clothes and larger classroom items into one draw, our school supplies in another and to use the new cabinet for work we have not completed yet.  We are quick studies and in no time understood and implemented the lesson!
