Week 16

Good afternoon parents of Kinder A!

I hope that you have all had an enjoyable week!

We have just right into our next unit of inquiry (where we are in space and time) by looking at
ancient Egypt!

English

This week in English we reviewed our past sight words, worked in our phonic books, played English word games and also looked at our new sight words - thank, shift, shrimp and punch.

Next week our sight words are shelf, joint, boost and thump
we will also be reviewing the long and short vowel sounds we will be reviewing will be A-E

Homework - I have sent home this weeks sight words as they would be used in a normal sentence. The students are the copy the phrase on the sheet and return it to class by Wednesday.

Math

This week in maths as we are all a little bit tired after the summer vacation we have been reviewing addition, subtraction and clocks from last term. I'm happy to report that it only took a little reminding how to complete two digit addition for everyone to easy solve the problems!

On Thursday we created square bottomed pyramids just like the ones they have in Egypt!

Homework - This week I have sent home an easy review of analogue and digital clocks please make sure it is returned by Wednesday.

Unit of Inquiry

We have started our new unit of inquiry called 'where we are in space and time' in this unit we will be looking at ancient civilizations, present day civilizations and what we think civilizations will look like in the future.

We have started off with ancient Egypt, we looked at the pyramids, mummies, King Tutankhamen, the sphinx and hieroglyphics. We have all found it very interesting especially the booby traps in the pyramids and how beautiful the different sarcophagus mummies can be found in.

Next week we will be looking at ancient Rome!
