Week 6

Hello parents of kindergarten A

I hope that you had enjoyed your week as much as we have enjoyed our time focusing
on literacy.

English

We have started using our phonics books and everyone has really risen to the challenge
of being responsible for their own book. We have been learning our new sight words,
phonics (BL, FL and GL) and practising our writing.

Maths

This week we have been really focusing on addition and subtraction with number bonds
to 20. We are trying to increase our speed with recognising smaller groupings and helping
our friends who are struggling a little.

Literacy week

We had such a fun filled week this week with a number of guest readers teachers, parents
and older students sharing their favourite books with us. We talked about our favourite
stories and read some of our library books to our classmates.

We also ended literacy week by wearing our favourite character from stories to school and
with a spelling bee! We held a class competition to found our class champions and then competed against kindergarten B. Although everyone spelled really well, Kazushi was
crowned the spelling champion of Kindergarten! Well done!

Play time

We have been having a great time with kindergarten B playing group games like fruits basket and duck duck goose!

Week 5

Hello parents of Kindergarten A

I hope you all had an enjoyable week!

English

We have been working really hard this week on all aspects of our English ability. From reading to comprehension to writing and speaking.  I have been really focusing on our penmanship and I am really happy with how we are coming along. In the coming weeks you will see an increase in amount of writing that your children will be doing.

Maths

This week in maths we have been focusing on knowing the next number in a sequence either higher or lower.

We have also been working really hard on our addition.

Unit of Inquiry

We have started on out unit of Inquiry this week and the first environments we have been learning about is the savannah, grasslands and forests.  We all really enjoyed learning about the many different kinds of animals that can be found on the savannah!

We followed through with this into making posters of our own savannah in art class.

Play

We spent this week learning to play a little safer with our friends.

On the way back from the park on Thursday we saw a man changing the light bulbs in the traffic lights so we stopped to watch him work before coming back to school.

We designed a running game in the gym.

We found some boxes in class and have been working hard to turn them into shops and restaurants. Currently we have a hair salon, a takoyaki stall and a bakery.  We are hoping in the future to create a whole small town to play in.

Art

This week me made Savannah posters by cutting out posters and coloured paper to make our own savannah. The kids really loved learning about the different animals and how they interact with each other.

Japanese

In Japanese this week Ms Nao has been teaching us the Japanese words for different animals and insects that can be found all over Japan as well as helping us to improve our speaking and writing.

Week 4

Hello parents of Kindergarten A!
I hope that you have all had a lovely weekend and enjoyed the mothers day gifts your children made this week.

English

This week in English we have been focusing not only on our writing but also learning phase 4 sight words (went, it's, help, just) as well as our phonic sounds of TR,GR and DR.

We are also focusing on our hand writing as a few of us are still finding holding a pencil a little cumbersome so I have been providing a few pencil grips. You may also see more writing practice sheets going home in our child's homework to help them improve.

Maths

We have continued work on our addition and through games like snakes and ladders and our dice games we have been quickly getting better at quick addition!

We have really been enjoying our random dice addition game and have been requesting to play it all the time!

In the coming weeks we are going to start practising our counting up to 100!

Play

We have really been enjoying pretending to be horses when we play in the park and have been showing our caring and principled natures to always try to include our friends in all of our games.

Due to the sad events that occurred in Shiga this week we played in the gym on Friday while we reviewed our procedure in travelling to and from the park to make sure that all safety precautions were being taken.

However I will be talking with the class about road safety to make sure all our friends are fully educated about and aware of the dangers of the road and travelling next to and over it.

Should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate in contacting me.

Art and Craft

By now I hope that you have all received your wonderful mothers day gifts and cards from your children. They worked really hard all week to make them for you and put their hearts and souls into their creations to make you proud.

"We are doing this for our mum's so let's make sure to do our best"

This was from a conversation between two of our classmates and it melted my heart.
