Week 28

Hello parents of Kindergarten A

I hope that you have all been enjoying the wonderful sunshine we have been having this weekend!

This week in Kindergarten A we have been enjoying more time in the park, reviewing what our understanding of maths principals, focusing on our reading and trying our hand at come creative building!

English

We have been continuing our focus on reading with sight words and phonics.

I'm happy to report I have been noticing many of our classmates have been trying really hard to improve their reading.

Every morning we read a book together through Raz-kids on the smart board and I have noticed that more and more of the class are reading along out loud. This is excellent as the more we are able to read the more we see improvements in writing, and speaking. Reading reinforces grammar structure, introduces new words and opens up a world of fun through the books they can read.

This week I will be setting up reading level checks on Raz-kids so ensure that your child is at the correct level and to help them achieve their goals.

Maths

In maths this week we have reinforced the reading of clocks, 3D shapes and improving our speed in solving simple addition, subtraction and skip counting.

Unit of Inquiry

We have been looking at different materials, the names we use to describe them and how we can manipulate those materials for a new purpose.

I set a challenge on Friday, I gave the table groups the same collection of materials with the goal to build the tallest tower what can hold a set amount of weight.

I was very impressed with how everyone worked together, solved disagreements through kind words and built some very impressive towers!
