Science week!

Hello parents of Kindergarten A

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and enjoy hearing about the fun we had during
science week.

English

I have been very impressed with our reading abilities this week. Some students are really
trying hard to improve their reading abilities and sharing their skills with others.
We are still reading a Raz-kids book as a class every morning and I feel that is doing a
great job of motivating and giving some weaker readers more confidence.

Maths

We have been focusing on our subtraction this week and challenging ourselves with harder
and larger number problems. There are a couple of members of our class who wanted to try
a super challenge and I have provided a few problems which require borrowing from a
larger number.

(I have given an example of these problems to a few students for homework this weekend,
please do not feel that this has to be completed. I only wish to give them a chance to
challenge themselves.)

Unit of Inquiry

In our unit of inquiry we have expanded on our knowledge of properties of materials to
determine if they sink or float! We used a variety of different objects, named what they were,
what they were made out of and guessed to see if they would sink or float. Most of this was judged
by how heavy the object was and if it was hollow or not.

We also had a few more students start to learn plating and knitting.

We also used pasta to see if we could make a bridge that would support a heavy weight!

Science week

This week at school we explored and celebrated science and experiments!

We went to visit 2nd grade who taught us how sea creatures can be effected by oil spills by trying
to clean up a mini oil spill.

We gave them handmade friendship bracelets to thank them for teaching us!

We also visited a science fair on the 10th floor and got to try lots of different experiments!

Show and Tell

Thank you to Rino for bringing in her toy to share with all of us.

Play time
