We continued working in our notebooks to practice our handwriting.

Math

This week during our math lessons we continues to reinforce our abilities with addition and subtraction and I am happy to say that I have been seeing improvement with everybody in the class!

I have also continued to help a few students improve their subtraction and addition skills by having some focused help sessions during our math centre times.

Unit of Inquiry
In our UoI we have started looking at hot and cold climate animals, we made our own animals as well as starting to explore extreme weather.

WE started with learning about what everyone in class knew about extreme weather.
I was very impressed with how knowledgable everyone one was about different kinds of extreme weather that exist in the world!

We started with looking at flooding and landslides and will be looking into more extreme weathers in the week to come.

Park and gym time

We spent more time in the gym this week and played many game such as;

What's the time Mr Wolf
musical chairs
magic corners
fruits basket

Happenings in Class

This week in class we celebrated the birthdays of all the students (and Ms Yui) who had their birthday while in isolation.

We had a dance party after and went to the gym to play games.

Homework

As per the email you should have received I have decided to cease sending a large packet of homework home on friday for the children to complete.

Instead I will be sending home at least one page per day to help reinforce what we have been learning either that day or the previous day in class.

Clip up chart and calender

In the last two weeks I introduced the clip-up chart to help the students understand positive and negative behaviours. I have been very pleased with how quickly the students understood the system and started work better together to achieve tasks and move through activites with less distruptions.

At the start of each day they look at where they were clipped to the previous day and record it on their own calender. Should they unfortunately find themselves on yellow, orange or red they take a few minutes in the morning before they start their day to reflect on why the found themselves there.

At the end of the month I will be sending the calender they have filled out home.
I request to discuss with your child the results of their month,
sign the calender and please send it back to me.

The levels are as follows

Pink - role model student
Purple - outstanding behaviour
Blue - good day
Green - ready to learn (average behaviour)
Yellow - think about it
Orange - first warning
Red (upper) - Oh no! stop ( second warning)
Red (lower) - Parent contact (final warning)

The students have many chances throughout the day to improve their clip chart placment and before any child is clipped down they are first given a firm warning and a chance is given to correct their behaviour.

If your have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate in contacting me.

Important Information

As per the adminitration's guide we are trying to enforce social distancing in our classroom.

Recently we have been introducing having meal times at table again, however to comply with social distancing regulations we are only allowing three students to a table.

Please remember that we request your child bring the following items to class each day

2 x masks (named)
toothbrush and cup
small towel for drying their hands

We will be sending home these items daily as well as their hats on Friday.

Should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.
