Week 9

Blog post Week 9

Hello parents of Kindergarten A

I hope you have had a good week. It was a great one for us as we have been studying
weather and especially EXTREME weather. The different weather patterns and clouds
made for some great conversations about the different weather conditions we have all
experienced.

English

In English this week we focused on the sight words of pond, husk, limp and soft.

Husk was a new word to a lot of the members of our class so we spent a bit of time
working out how to use it in a sentence.

We also spent a lot of time going over the phonic bonds of MP,LP and ND. A few words
were easy to come up with like lamp, jump, end or send but we had a bit of trouble coming up
with many words for LP except for help and gulp. Maybe you can think of a few at home?

Sight words for next week - Cost, Bunk, Bank, Fond.

Maths

As we finished up our attention on using number lines to help with addition and subtraction
we started to turn our focus on learning to read an analogue clock.

We have learned about the face, hours, minutes. We also learned about the long and short
hands and what they mean when reading the time.  The struggle has been from learning that
the minutes goes in groups of five and are different from the number written.

It can be quite confusing so we will be looking into this and trying to read the time as much
during the week and between classes as possible.

Please consider having your child try to read the clock at home or in the park on weekends.
I’m sure they would love to show you what they have learned so far.

Unit of Inquiry

It has been a BIG week during our inquiry time as we are pivoting from what were have
been learning to how we can apply it!

Last week we finished up learning about all kinds of extreme weather like mudslides,
flooding, typhoons, monsoons etc.

This week we discussed cause and effect. What causes typhoons? Or mudslides? Do
humans have an effect?

Finally how does weather like that effect us, animals and the environment? For example
mudslides are caused by heavy rain and usually erosion. Humans may have caused that
through cutting down too many trees, mining or development.

The effect on the environment is extreme changes to the mountain side, local communities,
damage caused to human and animal homes as well as remaining plant life.

Art and Craft and Japanese

During our art and craft and our Japanese lessons we spent time making wonderful fathers day gift for you to enjoy. We hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed making them.

Parents visit day.

We really enjoyed having you in our classroom for the morning meeting and the share in a craft together. I know the kids were very excited to be able to show you all the paper craft skills they have been learning and using on a daily basis. I apologise for not taking a group photo as I would have loved to have hung it up in our class.

We can’t wait to have you back again for another activity and should you have any photos you wish to share please post them in the comments section below for everyone to enjoy.
